Exploring which sand blaster to purchase to begin taking paint off a few tractors. Have adequate volume and pressure of air, but need more info on which brand, model, size of unit to explore.
Needs to last for at least 6 tractors and be reasonably priced. Any help from the experienced will be appreciated.
Thanks,

If you have a high pressure washer you can get a sand attachment from Northern Tool. It screws on in place of the wand on the handle and suck sand out of the bag and mixes it with the high pressure water. I have one at work and use it on rusty trailers.

Mike,
How well does the sand and water system work?
What PSI does the pressure washer operate at?
Thanks

Our washer is 4gpm@3500psi. I've tried dry blasting and needle scalers and found that the wet blast system works far faster. The attachment cost about $55. I use black beauty sand and put the unopened bag in a small garbage can and poke the suction probe through the paper down into the sand. The hose that brings sand to the nozzle should be oriented so that the sand is coming in to the nozzle from the top. If it comes in the bottom water can dribble down into the sand hose and glom up the sand. I park a trailer in the parking lot (gravel), set up the washer/sand bucket then suit up in tyvek with hood, ear, and eye protection. There's no dust but I were a dust mask to keep sand out of my mouth It's just about like pressure washing but the paint and rust come off. Then I pressure wash the sand off, hook up and run the trailer to the painter who is waiting. By the time I get there it is dry.

Larry806,
Tell me more. I have a new welder and a large active junk yard 1 mile away. Do you have the plans and specifications for building a pot and the other stuff that goes into making a blaster.
Thanks,

You can build a pot for way less than 1/4 of what you can buy one for There not hard at all to build

do a web search on clemco ,i buy all of my black beuaty from a clemco distributor ,i have a 600 lb pot with an atlas copco 185 cfm compressor ,that set up might be overkill for occasional use ,but the clemco dist. i use will rent you a rig .if you are able to rent a blaster with a 5/16" vortex nozzle and a 175 or 185 compressor the balsting will go quick ,figure on about 1.5 hours per tractor (h farmall size) and 600 lb of abrasive per hour with 185 cfm and 5/16 nozzle my advice is to rent an industrial rig and get -er done.
