AC Persian Orange, 29047 Dulux DuPont- I am trying to get some of this paint. Does anyone do an internet buisness dealing this paint? I would like to get some in aerosol if possible as I have never used a sprayer. Also, is there any place near Indianapolis that specializes in antique AC restoration/painting? My project is a 1948 Allis Chalmers G.

Hi James,

Are you sure you want the DuPont 29047? When I was researching the paint for my '42 AC-B, I had determined (despite some info to the contrary) that 29047 was the later, more reddish persian orange (sometimes referred to as persian orange #2) that was used by AC starting about 1960. I really think that your G should be the early "pumpkin shade" of persian orange (sometimes referred to as persian orange #1). I am assuming here that you desire the original color that was used. In PPG, persian orange #1 is 60080 and persian orange #2 is 60396. You can get an idea of the visual difference in the two shades here. I think that the DuPont code for persian orange #1 is 655 but I have never confirmed it by actually buying some. In any event, you are probably unlikely to find any DuPont jobber that has the mixing tints for any number in Dulux. That's a DuPont tradename for their old synthetic (alkyd) enamel. As far as I know, it has gone the way of the Dodo bird, at least in small quantities. Frank Stalfire can probably add something here if he sees your post since he's a DuPont factory rep. Both the 655 and the 29047 are available in DuPont's NASON line of economic acrylic enamels and urethanes. I don't think you will find either the PPG or the DuPont numbers in aerosol cans. I have heard that there is an aerosol from Krylon that is very close to the persian orange #1 color but I forget the number and have never attempted to confirm it. If you want to follow up on that go over to allischalmers dot com and ask in their forum or do a search there on "persian" or "krylon".
