I have read many times about the danger of spraying hardeners (ISO'S). The readers state to use a air supply.

What is an air supply?
Is it the same firefighters uses?
I spray outside in the summertime using charcoal mask. Am I at danger?
Where can I purchase an air supply and approximate cost.

Thanks

Air supplied simply means your breathing air is coming from a source outside of the booth, or in your case the area where you are painting. It could come from compressed gas bottles like a fire fighter outfit but there is realy no nead for that expence. Most painters systems compress air from a safe distance away from the painting area and plumb it through a hose to the mask. There is system called Hobby air that is often mentioned here that you buy, plug in and paint. If you are handy, or cheap like me you can assemble a system for little outlay. My compressor is isolated from paint fumes and large enough to handle my guns and breathing needs so I just added a tee fitting to my hose and pressurized my mask that way. Some have issues with that method and use a sperate oiless compressor to suply air. I suffer no ills from my system but use your own good judgement, study up, and buy or build the best system you can. Please dont fall into the "little bit dont hurt me" crowd when dealing with ISOs (hardeners) The health problems are real, unfixable and hardly worth having a shiny tractor to show off.
