Does anyone know a good place to take a 1655 Oliver for painting? Assuming I do almost all the prep work. Rims are discolored but no rust pits or pores. Old decals are all removed. Just need to blast the grille and front & wheel weights. Assuming I can get the paint, what would be a reasonable price for a good paint job that includes apoxy primer, paint and hardner in the top coat?

I have painted many tractors in the past 4 years. I have used both OEM paints and an equivalent auto body paint with a top coat hardener. For something that you are talking about where you do alot of the work I would charge between 450-550 depending on the amount of dents needed fixed and the type of paint that you wanted. Chris

I usually charge $20-30 an hour. Most guys seem to charge $40 or $50. Price does not determine Quality. I know of a few guys in central Iowa who claim to be experts, but are not. I only spay OEM paint, but it still looks as good or better than those guys expensive urathanes. Always look at some tractors that a guy has done. I see a lot of guys spray paint dry to avoid runs and that makes them lose gloss. This is not always noticeable at first look since urathanes have so much shine potential. But there is no reason to pay for shine your not getting because of an unskilled painter. What part of Iowa are you in?

There is a body shop in Zearing Iowa(about 10miles east of ames and 11 miles north) that does a pretty fair job for the money. The owner paints more tractors than cars.
