I just finished putting the top coat on my frame rails. However I realize that I should have used filler for the rust pits before painting as the pits now glare pretty noticeable. I want to correct this and make the rails as smooth as they are in some areas, that had been protected by parts, from the elements. Do I have to resandblast the rails and start from scratch, or can I put the filler in, sand, prime and repaint?
I used PPG products from start to finish and am using 3M flowable finishing putty. Thank you.

I was waiting for someone else to answer since I am not familiar with your brand of putty. But, as a general rule 2-part fillers should be used on either bare metal of over epoxy primer. Single part "putty" can be used over surfacers, to fill depressions that the surfacer didn't cover -- don't get it too thick. Even there it probably is not recommended. I don't believe you should use a putty or a filler over topcoat. In my opinion, you need to take the pits to bare metal and use a two part body filler.
