If your really into it, go to yuor local auto paint store and ask who they reccomend for spray booths and get the reps no. when these guys sell a shop a new booth part of the cost is to remove the old one , I have seen numerous times where they have given them away if you remove it or just get a great deal, call the rep and tell him you are looking and you might get lucky.

Do a Google search and you will quickly find out that Seth is right. Most of the painting time is small parts, the chassis takes very little time. You can purchase an 8x5 or so walkin for $1500-$2500. The most expensive part is the explosion proof exhaust fans. If you buy and install yourself, they cost over $1000. Your local inspector and/or fire marshall will NOT approve a homemade spray booth (meeting the specs is prohibitive) and your insurance company will not insure it, they won't insure one you buy either, or the building it is in. Not because it doesn't work, but they are afraid you will kill someone if it blows up. Bodyshops get special insurance for these -- it costs a bunch. If you have doubts, just call your insurance company.

A spray booth is likly to cost a fortune. I paint tractors part time, and still have not seen one I can afford. In my experience a GOOD spray gun should be alot better than a spray can. If you buy an HVLP be sure your compressor is big enough. As for training there are a few videos out there, but have not seen them. The school of hard Knock is great education. Find an old car and some cheap paint and go to it. Happy painting

mine is a 14x30 ,the shop it was in went out of business ,i was able to buy it for 1200 ,just a simple cross flow booth .when i painted at the body shop we had a 70,000$ garmat down draft with heat and bake cycles, put the heat on 70-80 when painting ,get the last coat on ,turn a switch and it hit 140,could paint a car ,put on the trim and deliver it the same day if we needed to.
