My FFA group may be in the process of restoring a Farmall H. From what I have heard from my ag teacher {owner of the tractor}, the engine was stuck, but was freed up, but has now set for 3 years. My question, when we go to paint this tractor, how good would it look if we sprayed all the sheetmetal, but brushed the castings? I restored an Oliver 88 last year, and we sprayed the whole tractor, so I am not for sure on it. Thanks for any input guys/gals!!

Would probably look ok, at least it would look fair. But why? The castings are a lot easier to paint than the sheet metal, because they are rough and do not highlight defects as much as the sheet metal. Spraying will give better coverage and take less time.

In addition to what CNKS said, I would spray the castings just for practice. Castings are great practice if you have not done much spraying.

Our shop at the school is well big enough to do any kind of work to a tractor, it's just it isn't really set up for spraying paint. There is a lot of dirt, and not the greatest ventalation systems. Thanks!!
