Anybody have a good idea on how to make something inexpensive to bend sheet metal. I have to bend three pieces of metal to go scross the back of my cab. Any ideas will be greatly appreicated. Richard.

I have 3 sections to bend. I just can`t see buying a 175.00 bender to do 3 sections. They are 16 and a half wide by 30 and a half inches long x 2 and the middle one is 13 inches wide by 30 and a half inches long. I have to put 3 bends on each piece. I would like to get a crisp bend on each piece if you know what I mean. I`m not sure what the gauge of the metal is of the pieces that came off but I got 18 gauge to replace it with. Thanks for your help. Richard.

Richard, you did use the words " crisp bend",so you may want to consider going to you local high school metal shop, or a shop that makes heating duct work,, but I would take some thick 1/2" bars, clamp the metal in between them and maybe to a heavy table or something solid, and use a block of wood and a big hammer and fold it over, this is a crude process, but hot rodders and crafty guys can do wonders with limited resouces, practice first on some scraps, you be your own, good luck

Richard, you can try anything straight like angle iron ,2x4's( make it like a sandwhich -the metal is the meat) but you gotta clamp it along the entire width if it's heavy stuff , watch the radius (nose of the brake) on how sharp your bend is ....what is the width and length of your project? also is it steel ?what thickness?
