What can be done to best protect paint from fading (sun) besides keeping the tractor indoors all the time?? Are there effective paints? Additives? Thanks.

The old style synthetic enamel on tractors, and also cars can be waxed -- waxing usually lasts about a month if the tractor or car is outside, that's better than not doing anything. But, if you wax the old style paint once a month, eventually you will be down to primer. The more modern acrylic enamels, and better, acrylic urethanes resist fading much more. The urethane may last for several years without significant fading. Urethanes must have hardener to cure properly. Acrylic enamel can be used with or without hardener. The hardener gives the paint better gloss, but I'm not sure it causes it to resist fading. Of course, it can be waxed also. I have a 1992 GMC pickup (urethane base coat-clear coat) that sat outside in the daytime, garaged at night for 9 of its' 12 years. Far as I'm concerned, it has not faded significantly. I wax it once or twice a year in most years.
