The compressor is for my workshop. I looked
at the oil-free and looked at the one's you oil. I myself think oil is probably better, but not sure? Any suggestions on
what is the best. I want it to be quiet
as can be.

I am about to purchase a new unit that will dump about 10 SCFM at 90 PSI. This I will be hooking up to a manifold not unlike what you see if you contact "TP tools" they have a printable desing for a good general layout of how a compressor layout should look. I will recomend you using metal pipping and not PCV pipe as it could burst.Luck

Unless $$$ is no object, you should evaluate the uses, including duty (light&intermittent, heavy&continuous?), you will put it to and how much you are willing to spend to get there. Typically, compromises will have to be made. Unless you are going to use it to supply breathing air, I would suggest the lubricated variety. Power available in your shop may also be a factor. There is no single, simple answer to your question without additional consideration. What is "best" for me may not be for you and vice versa. You can spend anywhere from $100 to $2000 or even more for this equipment. As usual, you generally get what you pay for. Whatever you do, do NOT compare compressors on the basis of HP. Compare only on delivered SCFM at some common pressure. Sears notoriously overstates their compressors with their “maximum developed hp” marketing. Don’t fall for it. Air compressors are inherently noisy…don’t expect them to be quiet.

The bigger 2 stage oil type belt drive compressers with cast iron sleeves is what you want. We have an I-R T-30 but there are lots of good brands. A good air compressor will last a long time compared to a cheaper one.
