Epoxy primer over old coatings?

This past fall I was able to prime the chassis of my 8N, but weather did not permit topcoating.
I used a lacquer primer due to ease of use, but later learned on this forum lacquer is not the best way to go. I"ve noticed a white oxidation in spots on the surface of the primer the past month.

Can I overcoat this "old" primer w/ epoxy w/o additional prep? Then topcoat safely w/ acrylic?

Or do I need to treat these white spots before going any further.

I can"t find it now, but I thought I read on this forum the epoxy primer would stick to & seal over just about anything.

Any epoxy"s better than others?

Jeff

Tough question, the white spots you see are most likly moisture that has been obsorbed by the laquer, you can cover the laquer with epoxy but the only good thing over laquer is paint stripper. With laquer as a base you will have No adheasion to bare metal, no corrosion resistance, and the laquer will be the week link in the entire system and this will be at the bottom. This is fine if, you are on a budget, have time restrictions, or are not going to keep the tractor long and just need something to make it look good for a while, if you are going to keep it you may want to wait till spring and remove the laquer and go to metal with epoxy or etch primer. Epoxy primers are judged by the amount of epoxy resin in them, unfortunatly you can't find out exactly how much is in each, a non-scientific way to tell is by price, epoxy resin is expensive and fillers are cheap so relativly speaking the more the cost the more resin you should be able to expect, stick to a name brand and you will be fine.

Another question on this theme,I primed a stock trailer with this laquer surfacer stuff from the parts store..I was wanting to paint this with one of the farm stores tractor paints..VanSickles alkyd enamel most likely, will this work?? Not after a show finish, it's gonna get roughed up anyway, just wanted to know if it will work??
Thanks,

agree ,it will fade quickly , i painted a 2840 for a coustomer with that Junk" paint .the coustomer supplied the paint . it would not dry for 2 days and it faded out in less than a year . now i only do a job if i provide the paint .i added hardner to the paint ,but it did not help it .lots of companys have an industrial acrylic enamel . at least use paint that good.
