I'm working on a 1953 Farmall Super C. I'm on a tight budget and found some paint at the local Tractor Supply Company store (TSC) called BPS "Best Paint Sold" heavy duty enamel tractor & implement paint. They claim it is restoration quality, but sells for only $21 a gallon. The local Sherwin Williams dealer wants $143/gallon.

Has anybody tried the TSC-BPS paint and is it worth the chance for the price?

Three words: DON'T DO IT!! That kind of paint is great for implements and items that you don't really care too much about. Example= I painted my mail box with a local tractor supply paint also 21 dollars a gallon and within 2 years it has faded so bad that it looks pink instead of red. Paint like that is fine for other projects. Not for tractors that you have more invested in. I would go with your local IH dealer or the Sherwin-Williams people. In the long run, it's worth a little more than a lot later.

I have used BPS for a few jobs, always with valspar hardener and have had good results with it. You will not get the lasting quality of automotive acrylics however. I guess alot depends on what your expectations are, what are you going to do with your tractor such as show or work, and how much do you want to spend. Dupont Centauri or PPG Omni line of paints would be worth checking into. Good luck with your tractor

It will fade bad & not be the right color. I would take that back & go to the IH dealer There paint is only a couple dollars higher than TSC

Larry is exactly right. TS is crappy paint. Tsc tend to be the wrong shade of red right out of the can. Let alone the fact that it fades very fast. IH only costs a little more and is a lot beter. I have had great luck with it.

Thanks for your quick response. I hope to restore it to some level of show quality as it's in pretty good shape. I'll check out the IH dealer.
Thanks!

We use IH red and it runs us about $38 a gallon, really looks good if you sand down the primer, use IH reducer too.We also use self etching automotive primer.
