I have a JD G in the shop that I have been painstakingly working on that didn't turn out as smmoth as I would have liked. Can I wet sand it with 320 and respray it without the paint reacting?I used John Deere paint and primer.I am going to wet sand it tomorrow cause the weather is going to be nice.I also use synthetic hardner. Thanks for any info,Jack(TN).

I would let the paint set for atleast 2 weeks. I have done this before with IH paint. I used 400 wet sand then 600 I think 320 you will see sand scratches in the finish coat. Also use some dawn dish soap with the wet sanding.

What does the soap do,I have never used it before?I wet sanded it yesterday with 320 and it looks smooth but do you think the sander scratches will show through?I can do it again no problem.

The soap will suspend the sanding particles in the water and help prevent the sandpaper from "loading up".

You mix some soap with the water it makes it sand alot nicer. I think 320 will show sand scratches I had sand scratches with 400! I sand with 600 last, if you spray the paint right it will look like glass!!

Hi Jak,

I can't say for sure since I have never used a JD paint. My guess, however, is that since you used a hardener in the first coats, that sanding and recoating again would not be a problem. I've done it with other hardened enamels when I got too much orange peel for my liking.
