I was wondering what the difference was between medium and full wet coat. does medium mean to fully cover or just a light coating not necessarily completely covered? versus a full coat fully covering the surface?

Opinion: One's heavier than the other. It's one of those things that you can't define very well but you know when you see it :o). If it runs, you've gone too far. I don't try to get full coverage on the first coat. I do on the second and then usually add a third coat for good measure. It also depends on the product and the technique and experience of the painter. Practice on the products you intend to use and don't be too concerned on how the coats are defined. Basically, you want to apply the last coat as heavily (wet) as possible without running. Metallics are a lot trickier to apply using a single stage paint, since you are not only concerned about flowout for gloss w/o running but also about flake appearance - you can get it too wet and screw up the metallic flake, even w/o runs.
