Had a question for you guys. We are painting some tractors and are using NAPA Crossfire self etching primer on bare metal but were unsure of what to use over old OEM paint if it was in good shape. Or should we just sand it with 400 and put the paint right over it if it is sticking good. We are using PPG OMNI base/clear paint and just wanted to make sure that everything sticks well, thanks.

The link will tell you all you need to know -- look for Omni MP 170. I would use that on bare metal also instead of self etching primer.

For some reason, the MP 170 epoxy sheet is not available in the link. It is suitable for bare metal, and will act as a sealer over old finishes. Unless you are positive your old finish is solid, I would not topcoat it without sanding and applying 170. Also since you probably don't know what the old finish is, or what's under it, I would remove it -- Only my opinion. The MP 170 sheet will be on PPG's web site www.ppg.com, unless they are messing with it too.
