I have Kenworth t-600 ( hey its a tractor)that needs a paint job.I used to fool around in the paint business some,I have painted a few tractors , trucks ,race cars and things but it's been about 15 years since I've done any thing like that. After reading through the post's on this board it seems like it just as well been 150 years. I don't have a clue where to start. I have an accura spray HVLP gun with a turbine and a pot that I know how to use and it has always worked good for me.I also have a pretty good charcoal mask. I am not planning on doing this untill the weather warms up and I can leave the shop door open.If a bug lands in it , I can live with that , I just want something that shines up good . What would be a good paint to use that won't kill me? what primer? It is a 1988 model and I am the second owner , so I know its original paint. The paint is solid ,it is just fading out on the roof and hood and has some road rash on the front. Thanks ; Wade

The most "modern" paint in general use that does not have to have hardener is acrylic enamel. And, the isocyantes are not in the paint, they are in the hardener. Any urethane paint has to have hardener to cure properly, so you are exposed to iso's if you don't use a supplied air system with urethane paints. Any exceptions to this can be answered by Frank Stalfire, who is a DuPont rep and has posted on this forum, and is knowlageble about any new DuPont paints that don't have iso's, if they exist.

Wade,The whole painting deal has changed.Paints can be much more toxic now.I am not a painter but Ill leave you with this message; You will need plenty of saftey advice. An outside air supply mask is probably required.Read all the MSDS sheets and heed the warnings.

nothing that shines good and will last on a truck ,will be cheap paint .you might see if ppg still hac the dc 11oo clear ,it was a non iso clear .plan on 5-600$ for materials if you go that route.i have sprayed alot of catalized paint without supplied air ,wont do it now .enough gets into your system to be harmful ,and at the least make you feel bad the next day.
