I've read the earlier post and earlier I decided to sand blast my old F-20. I've just got the frame, transmission, axel, and rims left to sandblast. The motor was stripped down and completely rebuilt. All of the associated motor parts and removeable parts were blasted in my blast cabinet. Now for my question. I do not own a regular sand blaster, only a cabinet blaster. I've been looking at the Harbor Freight cheapies. Anyone with any experience with those? What size do I need and what good brands. I've got two more tractors in line needing a good blasting. Looking for a good blaster and want to learn from others mistakes.

We just bought a cheap one from TSC. Works great but takes lots of air. We rented a big 175 cfm compressor and I blasted an entire truck cab inside and out along with many small parts in one weekend. The compressor was a 351 ford with one side the motor and the other side the compressor. Kinda neat.

Thanks for the tip on operation, I'll revisit it. I couldn't get it to work a few years ago & left it sit, completly frustrated. It would just clog up & not work. At the time, I remember thinking I wish I had paid more & bought a good one from TIP. All my friends use TIP cause it's goods stuff & they got a big kick, at my expense, at the problems I had w/ the $99, red, I think 40 gal Harbor unit. I hope you have better luck than I had. The water trap made out of cheap pot metal split when I threaded it on also. I dodn't remember all the specifics, it's been too long.

I imagine its pretty hard to screw up the manufacturing of a sandblaster even in China. If a valve goes bad you can put an American one in its place no problem. After all its just a tank that holds sand. The US ones are often made by TIP in OHIO.

I got one from TIP and it's done a lot of work. They tend to be a little spendy, but do have all the replacement parts which you will need. Sandblasters are high maintinance. Check localy with a industrial supplier of blasting materials, they may have a used one or know where there is one. I got my big one from the rep. from a blasting media company.

Thanks to Carol Martin he got me going on the sandblaster I bought from Harbor Freight. Open the valves in the correct order and use No. 5 sand and correct nozzle and your problems are over. Sequence of valves is the key for sure. Open the sand valve after the air is flowing and adjust it as to the flow. Works great.
