The radiator on a Farmall M should be painted black. What type of paint and brand? Thank you.

SEM makes a line of quality spray can trim paint. I like to use the flat black on radiators. This is the trim paint used on the black trim parts of autos. It wont flake off like cheap paint. Call your auto body supplier.

I don't know if IH bothered to paint the radiator separately. IMO just use the red you are using on the rest of the tractor. Most important thing is not to clog the fins with paint -- I usually don't even paint that part. But if you consider black to be correct -- that's one place where I wouldn't worry too much about quality. There is no official color, so whatever looks good to you.

Thought I read that it was black but maybe it is red. Thanks for your help.

This came from a post that was titled Paint my 1944 M Red??? You came back with a response. And another by Paul in Michigan. Date 06-05-2004 at 13:09:25. Printed this for my records.

I didn't mention the radiator, unless I missed what I said -- you had me worried there for a minute. Paul in Michigan said it was black, he's usually right. I'm somewhat lazy when it comes to parts that aren't easily visible, so I just use the same red as what came on the tractor. Some people like to paint certain parts black, such as the starter and generator, I've thought about it, but have stayed with red. Black lights, I don't like.
