I am preparing to do some sandblasting on individaul tractor parts on a restoration project. I have read that after sandblasting, you should clean the surface with a phosphoric acid. What does this do and what is the proper substance and method to cleaning a surface after sandblasting?

Thanks,

KHE 70

A phosphoric acid product such as Picklex 20 can be used on sandblasted parts to protect them from rust, it is not used for cleaning. Prior to priming, clean the surface with wax and grease remover. If you are priming (epoxy primer is preferred) soon after blasting, the Picklex is not needed, just the wax and grease remover. Metal prep type products are used on bare steel that is not blasted or sanded, you don't need them, if that is what you mean.

I like to use a Wash Primer after blasting, you should wipe parts down with a degreaser before using Wash Primer, and then use a good Primer, then you are ready for finish coat. I like Axzo Nobel (Sikkens) products, their reps can help you out, and give better advise than some other paint companys that I have used.
