Uh oh... paint defects, how what?

Hi,

I "think" I goofed! I sprayed catalized enamel from the local farm&fleet store, cut with fast reducer to thin it up to where my el cheepo HVLP gun likes it. I sprayed a bunch of brackets, floor boards, and stuff and one of the frame rails (Ford HD Industrial TLB).

On the frame rail I gave it an extra coat with the last of the paint and now it is starting to "Crows foot". Little cracks in groups of 3-4 like a star, typically. At a guess, it's due to the extra coat and the extra dilution. Right?

So, what do I need to do to fix it? Sand and re-spray? Just re-spray? Or?

Oh, the other stuff that was sprayed at the same time has not shown any defects except for the dust bunnies from my dirty shop air!

Thanks!

Hi John
depending on when the cracks appeared you may need to sand cracks completly, we see "mud cracks" in a finish when its fully cured and it cannot handle the stress of rapid expansion and contraction, those cracks needs to be completly sanded out, if you see cracks right away it may just be a little lifting or seperating, you will have to look and feel the surface, if you can feel them more paint will just show them off, so, if you feel them you will need to sand them.

Frank,

That's what I was afraid of... oh well. On the bright side, there are only a few places where the cracks have shown up so it won't be all that hard to get rid of them.

Say, can you tell me where in ZIP 54701 area I can get Dupont paints? I have used them in the past (Centari and Imron) but the shop I bought them from is now selling PPG.

Thanks!
JB
