I painted an old jeep about 20 years ago with Dupont dulux, and it is starting to loog good, real good. It has a nice faded appearance to it, and many people ask me if it is the original paint. I also have a John Deere tractor that was painted about 15 or so years ago. It dosent seem to be fading at all in fact it looks just as shiny today as when I bought it. They no longer make the dulux. So my question is where can I get paint in the proper color that will fade properly like the old paints do? I am sure many of you will think this a strange request but I am sure some of you may understand.

Thanks guys! I have got that written dowm and I now have a better idea what to look for when I buy paint. Actually I dont paint often I prefer that fresh outta the field look. I dont know what kind of paint is on my tractor. I have had it for 14 years, it was exactly what I was looking for except for the new paint. True I dont use it much a little bit of haying, but since I have had it, it has never seen the inside of a shed.

The fading stuff is called acrylic lacquer, or aklyd (sp?) enamel, also known as synthetic enamel. Someone else can tell you if you can still get the color you want mixed. Your JD was probably painted with hardened acrylic enamel (don't know if it lasts 15 years) or acrylic urethane. Or it was not used much and kept inside.

Enamel and laquer are most certainly not the same liquid.

I didn't word the answer right. I should have said synthetic enamel and acrylic lacquer will fade (fast). I am aware that they are not the same.
