I have just finished a 730 John Deere and it is the first paint job I have completed. I did great on the body work and all but my final shine just isn't pleasing to me. I have some other tractors to paint and before I do, I want to get others' opinion on what to use. I use JD paint and JD thinner. Should I use automotive thinner to get the gloss look? Hardener maybe? If so what type and how many parts of thinner per paint should I use? I will ONLY use Deere paint. Thanks and any tips at all on priming or painting are gladly accepted. Luke

colorsand it and buff it,you could even sand the paint with say 2500 gritt sand paper and hand rub the shine into it if you feel like getting big muscles

use your j.d. paint with hardener (dupont#77s) or any ones that for alkilyd paint if your tring to paint the whole tractor you will have to slow down the reducer.what you got is a over spray problem the reducer is to fast hope this helps if been painting for 20 years all over the mid west KEVIN

You will want to use hardner designed for synethic enamls because this is what the JD paint is. Mar-hyde or martin senour paints makes hardner. Next you will have to give the sheet metal 3 coats of paint with the last coat mixed alittle thinner. We have painted over 55 tractors, of all makes and models, and unless you use hardner and 3 coats you will not get a very good shine. RS

dont you mix thinner into every coat of paint or did you mess up the post and meant to say hardener? without thinner you get orange peel and the gun wont even suck some stuff up like that.

I recommend you use ONLY whatever thinners and/or hardeners, including mix recommendations, are called for on the JD paint label. You should also check the label on any hardeners that you may use to see if they contain isocyanates. If they do, you should use a supplied-air respirator (not a chemical cartridge one) to protect your respiratory system. The stuff is very toxic.
