2150 is a "modified acrylic enamel" -- Therefore use the components designed for acrylic enamel, not synthetic.

I just read on the Farmall board that the "acrylic modified" 2150 is a synthetic enamel that has been "upgraded" (the upgraded is my interpretation). It is still synthetic enamel and IH has a new hardener, REN-3001, that should be use with it. You should NOT use acrylic enamel hardener. Also PPG, and probably others make the acrylic modified enamels also. Apparantly they are intermediate between the straight synthetics and "true" acrylic enamels. PPG considers them industrial or machinery paints, not automotive, if I interpreted it right. So, my previous post is incorrect.

You can use acrylic enamel hardener and acrylic reducer with 2150 I have been doing it for 6+ years now. You can also use it in the JD green also, I know it says synthetic on the JD can but it works great! I have a friend that uses synthetic hardener and synthetic reducer with 2150 and works good also but my paint jobs look alot nicer. I also know two guys that use clear coat over 2150 and JD green.

I suppose it's whatever works for the individual -- all I do with 2150 is pass on info that I have read on YTMag, since I have no intention of using it, unless the name brand paints become priced out of my range. I've read about many hardeners, reducers, etc added to both JD and CIH paint -- perhaps they are "forgiving" paints, or perhaps the additives are not as critical as the major paint companies make them sound. But, I'm not very good at experimenting and much prefer to have a spec sheet that lists the compatible additives, and the exact amounts to use--that is why I pay 2x or 3x the price of the desler paint, so that I can be assured that it works -- Then if I screw up it's my technique, not the paint (it happens). I don't paint often enough to have time to experiment and compare different combinations. I would probably learn a lot if I did. Thanks for the information.

Scott, I"ve used the hardner, obtained from O"reilly Auto and reducer with good results so far. Case dealer told me to get the hardner from autoparts store. Good luck.
