I need a little info regarding the color of the rear rim paint on a 1955 Mod 40S. My recollection is that the rims were a galvanized color (if not galvanized) and I have seen a few painted a "grey" color. I was told that the Chev Camnero has a grey enamel that a hardner can be added and this produces the color desired. CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME WITH THIS? I will be most grateful, for I am getting down to the "nitty gritty" in my restoration process. "Thanks", Bob.. P.S. This Mod 40S is my wife's tractor and she is more "picky" than me so I HAVE to get it right!

It's called "Argent Silver" . GM's color for wheels forever. Looks great. I see the local IH store now has an IH rattle can called "argent silver". Appears they saw too many customers going to the local body shop supply house!

I don't know what a 40S is. On previously galvanized IH rims I use PPG 8568, I have heard that 3822 will work also, these colors have a gray tint to them, they are both GM rally wheel paints. Some people use aluminum, it's too bright for me, as the original galvanized was not bright.

Were the original galvanized rims on a Ford 2N bright or more gray?

I found the color! "Thanks" to you guys. It is the GM Rally Wheel color. I actually matched it with the original paint splotches from my wheels. Lugging that rim down to the paint shop was the only way to do it. The secret is to get the slick bright finish paint and thin it with enough thinner to dull it up a little. The dull aluminum finish is too dull. I tried it and it works. It takes a little over 1/3 thinner to 1 part of paint to get the color to match. I sprayed with about 40 lbs of air pressure (backed off the spray pattern a little more than usual) and got it to match. Of course the new paint looks better than the old that I uncovered with paint stripper, but the color is about right to my eyes. "Thanks" to everyone for getting me started in the right direction.
