Having not used body filler for over a year, yesterday I spotted some spt welding "dimples" on a set of repo fenders with Bondo. Evidentally I did not use enough hardener, because it is drying/setting up very slowly. Will it eventually dry??? (After 24 hours it has made some progress). Thanks for the help!!

I would have readily agreed with the others until I read a particular article last year.

The article stated that not only will the Bondo eventually dry, but it will be harder and more dense than if a larger, i.e. proper amount of hardener be used. It also stated that when exposed to air that over time the Bondo itself will harden even without a hardener additive.

At work I used some very old fiberglass filler that had been given to me to form a small ramp over a raised portion of concrete. The hardener I used had seperated and much of the liquid portion dribbled onto the ground before I was able to add it to what filler was in the can. It took two days for the filler to completely harden, but after a year it is still in place and extremely hard.

I certainly agree that the proper amount of hardener should be used, but if a soft spot is discovered I"d leave it unworked for several days. I"m willing to bet that you will find it satisfactory after that time.

The article may be true however I did this last year and after two or so days I could no longer wait and used some cheapo wood chisels to start over by lifting away the undried mess.It also seemed that it would not ever be right and a good point to remix correctly. How patient each guy is could be a factor but once after I saw it wasnt working for me that was the best decision. I cant even remember what it was on.Gotta make daily progress on these things or it takes forever.

Hi,

Well, if it were mine, I'd remove it and start over with a correct mix.
