I've got some good advice from you guys recently so I thought I might come to the well again with something a little different. I have a slick finished concrete floor in my pole barn / work shop. It is badly oil stained. I've decided I would like to paint it if I could get something to stick to it. I have a 2000psi powerwasher and that cleans up some of the oil on the surface dut doesn't get deep down into the stain. I know it would have to be etched with something, I'm assuming muratic acid. Will this bring up some of the oil? I'm open to type of paint/primer if it would last 5-10 yrs. It doesn't get a lot of traffic but I would like to think it would help with cleanup when I have a spill. Was thinking about putting it down with a roller to get a thicker coat.

HI Keith
DuPont has an industrial line of paint with an epoxy great for floors, it is used by Hendrick motorsport for the floor of thier shop. the no. is Corlar 2.1PR , you will need to have the floor super clean from oil and grease and if it is very smooth etch it with muriatic acid Frank

thanks for the info. What I'm wondering is how to get the oil stains up. I have heard of a product called FADE but I think it is just for the color. Looking for a way to get the deep stuff so it will stick.

Grind, using elbow gease, some speedi-dry,with a block of two by four.Pros actually shave the floor with a machine using carbide cutters. Some apply Ardex or Mapei concrete leveling products[expensive]after grinding. The speedi-dry should soak up as much as youll get without grinding but it wont be perfect.

If the stain is old don't worry about it, you just need to get the oil out not the stain, as for the oil, solvent is the only way i know, someone else hear may have a home remedy

Thanks Frank,

Most are old stains. Was going to go over the entire floor with a 50-50 Simple Green and water mix. Anything showing oil I will hit again full strenght. Then the acid.
