What type of hardener should I use with John Deere synthetic paint. My goal is to keep gas from reacting with the paint. I used marhyde wet look hardener last time. A month after it was painted, some gas spilled on the frame and i did not wipe it off. The gas casued the paint to bubble and peel off.

I use arcylic enamel reducer (med dry) and acrylic enamel hardener. I use painters pride 747 hardener. I use this in caseIH paints also. You can use synthetic hardener and reducer, painters pride make's that also. I have been using the acrylic for about 6 years now with no problems.

Painted a 430 5 years ago and used NAPA Econo-Body 15117 hardner. Still looks great.

Hi Ty,

What does the can label on the paint say about hardeners? If none are indicated it would seem that none are recommended by the paint manufacturer. You would then be in somewhat of a trial and error situation using generics. Perhaps someone else can respond with what they may have had success with in that particular paint but I would stick to the manufacturer's recommendations. Anyway, if you have the equipment to safely use hardeners, my recommendation would be to forget that old technology synthetic paint altogether. A move up to a urethane in one of the automotive lines would be a far better choice.
