CNS

I followed with interest the discussion on whether PPG 8665 is the proper shade for IH 901. I understand you will be painting your 460 soon - I"m working on my 340 and have the same issue.

Has there been any resolution on this question? I"ve seen a photo of a 340U somewhere on this site and it"s white was pretty yellowish (or greenish as you say). I"d be very interested to know what you decide to use.

Thanks

I can't tell you, as of yet. The 460 is the 1st red and white IH I have had, so I don't have an opinion on the color because I really don't have anything to compare it with. Best thing to do is to see if 901 and 935 cross to different PPG numbers. The color on the tractor now (it was repainted poorly before I bought it) is sort of a cream color, but I don't have a clue as to what color was used. My guess is it was either what is currently available from CIH or tractor store paint. I'm still not ready to begin painting, too many other things going on. You might post this on the Red Power Forum. A person named Cliff Neubauer (sp?) occasionally posts there, and has painted several red and white IH tractors with PPG paint.

Here"s a reply I received to my post on Red Power. I"ll check both at my local auto finish supply and report back.

"THE CORRECT COLOR OF WHITE FOR YOUR 340 WOULD BE THE 901 WHITE.
THE 935 WHITE WAS NOT INTRODUCED UNTIL 1970 WHEN THEY BROUGHT OUT THE 1456, AND 826. ALL TRACTORS BEFORE THIS USED THE 901 WHITE.
902 WHITE WAS USED ON EQUIPMENT DURING THIS SAME PERIOD OF TIME.
THE 901 WHITE WILL HAVE JUST A TINT OF GREEEN CAST TO IT AND THE 935 WILL BE A BIT ON THE CREAMY SIDE. "
