Does anyone have any tricks for painting the stamped aluminum side emblems that were used on the later IH tractors? They apparently were stamped so the numbers and letters are raised above the background. The oval model numbers have a red background with clear numbers, and the International plate appears to have had black letters. Not totally sure because mine are totally without paint, and I"m only going on photos I"ve seen. Masking off the numbers would be a big job, but I don"t think I could hand paint them as straight as I"d like. I also read somewhere about first painting the entire plate, and then wiping off the high spots, but that sound pretty messy. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Paul, are you taking your emblems off the tractor or taping over them when you paint your other sheetmetal?

I'm debating on whether to try and take the aluminum emblems off my 560 or just tape over them and paint the tractor and then come back and paint by hand (actually my wife will be) the emblems. I wondered if you have removed the emblems yet and if they are hard to get off without breaking the studs? I want the paint job to look good but don't want to break my emblems either. Just wondered what you were doing.

I removed all of the emblems - the nuts behind the panels came off very easily on mine - everything appears to be aluminum. I am going to paint the sheet metal, so I wanted to get it all uniform. Hopefully you emblems will come off as easily. I wouldn"t want to break off the small aluminum bolts.

I took mine off lastnight. I want a uniform paint job too so I decided to take them off. Wasn't as hard as I thought. Thanks.

I have hired a woman who is an art major to paint my emblems. The four side emblems on my IH 806 took her 12 hours. The look just like when the tractor rolled off the assembly line. Well worth the $100 I paid her in my opinion.

My wife is very talented at drawing and art. I'm painting my 560 and she agreed to paint all the emblems on it in exchange for a nice steak dinner.
