I would start with a few searches here on the forum, there is a lot of info.

Me personally, I hate airless/electric sprayers, never can get them to flow just right. I just use a conventional sprayer (bottom feed). There is nothing wrong with rattle cans, easy to use and you can go at your own pace. Wet sanding is for when you are getting down to business, it keeps the sand paper from clogging when using fine paper and flows good when trying to feather out paint layers. If you use enamel paint, you don't need a clear coat. Clear coat is pretty expensive by the way, can cost more than the paint for the good stuff!
Post specific questions you have and people on here will help you through it. I have experience painting cars, this is my first tractor so I am right here with you. How much sanding is necessary, does it need sand blasting...?? it all depends!

My nieghbor did it on his Ford 3000. It looks good, everything is blue! The only difference is you don't get that glossy look out of a rattle can, but you could probably go over it with clear to get the gloss?
