Rod,

I brazed the rust holes in my fender today. It turned out very well. See the picture. The sheet metel buckeled in a little bit but that has OK because I was able to fill the low spots with bondo. I used a disk sander to knock off the high spots before I laid on the bondo.

I also found two ugly rust holes at the bottom of the fender where the material is rolled around for strength. Water was standing in this catch area and rusted on both corners of the fender. Brazing these up was a piece of cake. I just laid short pieces of rod over the holes and heated the metal to cherry red and the bronze flowed together very nicely. Then, I was able to build up the original layer with additional bronze by taking my time. I only had the whole mess of bronze fall out one me once, LOL.

Thanks for the tip.

That's great. I'm glad it worked out for you. It's also nice to see the pic.

When I repainted a truck of mine ('83) a few years ago, I stripped the paint and noticed that the joint between the windshield pillars and the roof had actually been brazed by the manufacturer (Chev) and smoothed so it didn't show. I was surprised to find that on a relatively modern OEM vehicle.
