I have started posting on a SA restore I am doing. I am in the middle of striping it down, removing paint and rust and preping pieces for painting.

Question 1
After the paint is removed and the iron oxide is wire wheeled off, what is the best way to store the pieces for painting so they wont rust back up again?

Question 2
Is it ok to shoot the whole tractor(including engine, trans, wheels, etc.) with 2 part epoxy primer? Or should I use a different primer on places that get hot? I have no experience with epoxy primer on engines and stuff that gets hot.

I am going to take the whole thing to bare metal before priming.

Question 3

What is the best way to prevent flash rust on cast pieces like the main trunk of the tractor? (pictured)

The last one I re did, after each piece was stripped, I coated with rustlick. Expensive and a pain to remove just before priming. I would like to shoot all pieces in one day instead of remixing and cleaning over a couple or more days.

Of course the hydraulics, control tower, steering manifolds, front end, wheels, etc still need to be removed and then I will block the whole thing up.

All suggestions are most welcome and appreciated.

1. Either use epoxy primer on the parts or coat with a rust protectant such as Picklex 20. You will have to scuff and apply another coat of epoxy before topcoating if you use epoxy. The residue from Picklex does not have to be removed before painting, although I try to scuff most of it off and then use wax and grease remover before using epoxy primer.
2. The only place paint will burn off is the exhaust manifold.
3. Same answer as #1.
Never heard of rustlick, but you won't have that problem with Picklex 20.
