Warning - the following is not for people with money or the faint at heart!I've "inherited" a project with paint issues. The engine and torqie tube of this little Allis were finished (nicely) in Quality farm and Fleet Allis Orange with isocyanate hardener, over Rustoleum red primer. The finals and wheels are the same but non-hardened. The rest of the tractor is paint stripped and ready for rust removal. The intent is to sandblast, pshophoric acid wash and rinse, then paint. There are 2 problems with this. 1 - I know that I cannot do all the bodywork inside the Rustoleum's prime time. I also know that if it's let sit the paint may not want to stick (one of the finals shows this behavior). I figured I'd do the acid wash then Rustoleum a couple of days before painting. 2 - QFF is out of business and there is not enough in the can to paint the rest of the parts. So, can I use either TSC (BPS) Farm and Home (Mystic?)? Are these all the same basic low budget oil based enamel? Any guesses on color match? There is probably a quart of the original left, and I will need closer to 1/2 gallon to do the job. BTW the portions that are assembled have contrasting (black) parts bolted on, looks to be Rustoleoum. Probably not a good idea to try to topcoat that with Orange, and I don't really want to disassemble the engine and take out the clutch rod accesories to do it anyways.
