I'm finally to the point of finishing My tractor! I'm down to the emblems and am not sure how to procede? They seem to be made of embossed or stamped aluminum? The round oval badges that say "140" have a white backround with red raised letter. How do you strip the old paint off and prepare and prime surface for new? I know I have to handpaint the numbers but the backround is too large for brushing to look good? Also looks like raised edges should be bare and polished? The large emblems on hood that says MCCORMICK FARMALL are in better shape and only need to clean and repaint the red mccormick letters. Again the raised aluminum parts look like they should be polished! You fellows have always given good advice and it will be put to good use now also! I'm excited to be almost done, afraid of letdown to be done also! Can't wait to post photo of finished tractor! I've put a few photos on the site the last few months to keep everyone updated! I like to check on other peoples projects myself and hear the stories behind their projects also! here's a before photo with tractor split and clutch being replaced, and another photo with happy Father and almost done tractor sans sheetmetal!http://www.tractorshed.com/gallery/tphotos/a28500.jpg

I am not too certain as to what is involved with what you have left...hope this will help. Alodine is the preferred primer for bare aluminum. PPG makes this in their DX series of metal treatments (DX579? don't remember the exact number, but this is close) Invisible alodine is used to prime aluminum before clearcoating (to produce a polished un-oxidizable finish, and can be used prior to painting or priming with epoxy)
