Hello I am currently painting my 720JD and I was wondering about sanding the paint to make it more flat and level. I am using Sherwin-Williams ACRYLYD acrylic enamal with a hardner. My question is can I do this process with this type of paint(I had one person tell me yes and the other no) and if so how do I know when I have sanded enough...or do I have to go by just looking at it.

I assume you mean how can you get the orange peel/dry spray removed (to get the paint flatter) as opposed to actually making the paint flatter relative to gloss levels. If so, yes, you can color sand/buff enamel with hardener. Start with 1200 grit paper (wet), followed by 3/m compound, followed by 3/m machine glaze, followed by 3/m final glaze, followed by premium selling price or tremendous peer envy! Good luck!

Buy the recommended surfacer or primer surfacer that goes under the topcoat--the correct ones are listed on the spec sheet, if not on the can itself. You sand the surfacer, not the topcoat. May take 2 or three applications to get it right. The surfacer will give a flat finish, and is mainly for sanding scratches and very small depressions, it is not a dent filler. For that you need body filler. As to when is enough, if you can't tell by looking, you can use straight surfacer the first time, then the next time add a little topcoat color (according to the instructions!), sand most of the second coat off, the color will remain in the depressions.
