I'm getting ready to paint my Farmall Super C and need some help. How many gallons of primer, top coat will I need? How many coats should be applied? What are the best brands of paint? What's the best solvent to use to clean off grease?

Thanks

David

Amount of paint really depends on how you approach the project. I do complete teardowns, paint every single part individually and then reassemble. I'll use three gallons of each and most of it winds up as overspray. This is what happens when you shoot many small parts. If you just remove the tin, a gallon of each will probably do.
I use Case 2150 red and the Case Ironguard primer.
I shoot a light tack coat followed by a heavy full wet coat, at 8:1 paint to reducer and 45 psi out of my cheap cup gun and the stuff flows like glass.
The price is right and I defy anyone with a clear coat fetish to get more shine out of their paint job. I painted my Super C in '94 and it still looks great (granted it stays out of the sunlight 95% of the time) Search for "1952 farmall super c"
in the tractor photos in this site and you can take a look. For degreasing I use the cheapest mineral spirits I can find. good luck

Here ya' go. I'm defying you. I've sprayed tractors using Case/IH 2150, PPG 2-stage urathane with clearcoat, and PPG with single stage, and by far the best is 2-stage. It's much easier to control, easier to remove sags, and when done right, it truly looks like glass...and I can park it outside once in awhile.
