Hi, I'm not a fan of multi-purpose products like etch primers. If it was mine, I'd use the following on aluminum that was going to be painted (not cleared directly): PPG DX533 Aluminum Cleaner PPG DX503 Aluminum Conditioner PPG DPLF or OMNI MP170 Epoxy Primer For info on DX533 and DX503 see here. The products are marketed by PPG but are actually manufactured by Henkel Surface Technologies, and are called Alumiprep 33 and Alodine 1201. More detailed usage instructions are included in the links to those. If you are interested in Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for these products, you can find them by following appropriate links from here. I've used DX533 and DX501 with excellent results on aluminum that was cleared directly to maintain the aluminum appearance. If you are going to prime and paint, then the DX503 would be the appropriate choice for the conditioner instead of the DX501. Note that none of the metal treatments listed in the PPG tech data sheet are recommended for sandblasted surfaces. They also should not be used in addition to etch or wash primers. Rod
