I have a JD 830 Utility Diesel. I have never painted before and I need suggestions as where to buy the paint. I have never painted before so any helpful information on buying the paint would be appreciated.
I have purchased a Devilbiss HVLP paint gun with a 1.5 tip.
I have also read that you should purchase the paint, thinner and reducer from the same paint company.
Thanks, David Smith

Economy lines from DuPont, PPG, Sherwin Williams are fine. You may or may not be satisfied with the paint from your JD dealer. Do not buy paint from a farm store. There are currently 13 pages of info on this particular forum. There are several threads on different kinds of paint along with safety information.

Hi CNKS, thanks for the information. I may have another problem, after reading some of the forums questions and answers I may need your advice.
I have already started painting some of my smaller parts with JD AG Green Spray Can Paint.
When I purchase my paint to spray the other parts it probably will not match the spray can color.
Will I need to wet sand these items again and primer them? Can I just wet sand and repaint?
I sanded about all of the parts down to metal and I got a real nice finish. Will this finish fade over time?
What type of enamble paint should I use?
Thanks again, David Smith.

First of all I'm opinionated (is that a word?). I may paint a few out of the way parts with rattle can paint, but that's all. It is not quality paint. The minimum you should do is buy both the spray gun type primer and paint from your JD dealer. This is likely to be alkyd enamel -- I am not sure -- it will fade fairly rapidly. You probably do not want to buy a lot of safety equipment which is essential if you use hardener. So your best bet is to have acrylic enamel mixed by your local paint store, which likely sells a major brand -- the economy lines produced by DuPont, PPG, etc are ok as long as it is acrylic, and not alkyd enamel. Buy all material of the same brand -- all this has been discussed MANY times before, and it is some peoples right to disagree. You cannot satisfactorily wet sand unless you use hardener. You cannot use hardener, if you value your lungs, and possibly your life, without a $500 or so supplied air system. The JD spray can paint and the JD dealer paint "may" match. Anything you have mixed won't match the rattle can paint.

One thing I overlooked -- As to sanding the rattle can paint and recoating with another type of paint, the rattle can paint will likely lift the mixed paint, for certain if you use another brand of paint, possibly even with the JD paint. You should strip the rattle can off, unless you are satisfied with the match between the JD spray gun paint on the parts you have not painted and the rattle can on the existing parts.
