Is there an epoxy primer that doesn`t have a recoat window? I blasted a lot of my tractor parts, sprayed them with Picklex 20, and want to get them primed for winter. I won`t be able to topcoat everything until next summer, since I"ll be spraying outside. Any advice you can give to this novice painter will be appreciated. Thanks....Stan

Don't think so, you have to scuff and reapply.

Anyway, if you used picklex, you don't need to prime them right away, but you have to keep them dry. But, I live in a dry climate, where I can leave things for months without any protection, inside.

Thanks for the info. One more question, when you say "scuff", do I have to make sure I hit every nook and cranny with sandpaper? If I miss an area, will the new coat lift? By the way, it`s on the cast iron. Thanks again, ...Stan

I haven't done much of the scuffing, but I agree with Jason. The scuff pads should work better than sandpaper because of the flexibility. If you have ever tried to sand cast, you really only get the peaks, and the area in between is missed. I don't think any missed areas will actually lift right away, I imagine the paint will begin to come off later, perhaps sort of like the 80's GM pickups -- this is a guess, as I haven't missed the window, yet. I don't want to find out.

I did this with my F-12. Just hit it with a scotch pad when your ready to topcoat. Sam's clubs has them in big packs. It is a pain, added a day to the paint job but well worth it.
