Hello everyone. I'd like to know if anyone has painted a tractor with Rustoleum. How does this compare to automotive paint without hardener? I painted some wheels with Rustoleum and they came out fine, but hasn't been long enuf to know if it'll be durable (2 months). Thanks for any answers, ChrisH(IA)

I have been restoring tractors for years, and have used several paints and known others who have tried everthing. It depends on how much of a quality restoration you want, how much you have to spend, and how long you want the tractor to look good. All automotive paints are better than the typical spray cans, and the Base-Coat, Clear coats are designed to prevent damage from the sun (UV Protection), but you can save a ton of money using synthetic enamels with a hardner, and still get a quality paint job for less than half the price. Painting a CLEAN surface with a good epoxy-based primer will enhance the longevity of the paint also. You can paint a tractor for less than $100, and look good for a few years, or spend $750 and look good for 40 years or so. Good luck!

I am not familiar with Rustolem, as I prefer automotive paints. But, if it is alkyd enamel, it won't last as long as automotive acrylic enamel.

Looks like I'll be using automotive paint--an acrylic enamel. I should take that good advice--"It's the stingy man that spends the most!"
