Paint question

I started painting my 8N chassis with a gallon of Crossfire red. The color looked great. Used the correct reducer for the temperature and the crossfire hardener. After i got the chassis done, I started painting the other parts-generator, governor, starter, dashboard manifold, air cleaner, etc. I used the SAME gallon of paint, the same reducer, same hardener, same spray gun, same compressor with water trap. The parts came out an entirely different color red. They were more orange. I thoroughly stirred the paint before use and while mixing the small batches of hardener, reducer and paint. Does anybody have an idea what could have gone awry here?

A friend of mine has a International Cub Yard tractor. Date of MFG 1948 Serial Number 5342 and we are trying to find out what color that it was painted when it was manufactured. Thanks for any information that anyone can give us.

The old cubs were always solid red. There were the delaer domos that coul dhave been white, but they weren't numerous. The yellow/white color didn't start until sometime in the 60's.

Hi Drew,

I don't know if this will help you or not:

My PPG listing for old tractors indicates an "International Cub Cadet White - #8665" and an "International Cub Cadet Yellow - #81518".

I have no indication of what years these colors were used or even it they are for the yard tractor you mention.

You should be able to have either of the above numbers mixed in the PPG OMNI line of automotive paints by any PPG jobber.

A few possibilities here:

First a question...Do some of the areas that came up different have primer and the others no primer? Reds generally don't cover in one coat and you could be seeing "showthrough" of primer beneath.

You could also be having a chemical reaction that changed the color of the paint after reducing it. Certain red pigments will bleed when exposed to strong solvents. Did you use the recommended reducer or might you have swapped it for something too strong.

Is Crossfire the color or the brand of paint?

I used no primer. The chassis was sandblasted to bare metal and sprayed immediately and the other parts were done likewise.
Crossfire is the new acrylic enamel that replaced the Martin Senour at NAPA. I used the same exact gallon gan of reducer and same quart of hardener in the same exact gallon of paint as I mixed it in quart batches.
