Hi all, About a month ago while surfing the net, I came across a really neat picture where someone had painted, I think it was a farmall, that showed all the different(proper) layers from bare metal to finished paint job. Each section was about 4 to 6 inches. Has anyone else see this and by chance have the link. I would like to use this as a guide for my first full farmall cub tractor restore project. thanks!

Hi Kurt,

I haven't seen the photo(s) you mention. However, you might want to review my own photos of the steps I took from start to finish on painting a fender for my AC-B. They are available here as thumbnails. Each photo will come up full-sized (640x480) in a new browser window after clicking on a thumbnail. I suggest you maximize each new window in order to read the accompanying text easily. Closing any new window will return you to the thumbnail page. The photos are on several different servers at Imageshack and sometimes one or more of the servers are down or experiencing problems. There are 36 pictures in all. If you don't see all the thumbnails at first, try again later.

Your picture presentation is the most awesome thing I have seen in regards to painting. I want to personally thank you for your dedication to this site and all of your helpful direction. You are appreciated more than you will ever know.

I've seen it, don't remember where. But, what you need is epoxy primer, followed by sandable surfacer, followed by topcoat -- three layers, unless you are using basecoat-clearcoat, then there are 4. You don't need the surfacer on the cast, meaning only two layers on it, epoxy and topcoat.

Rod's pictures illustrate what I just said -- I use the same products, except that I have not clear coated yet.
