Keep in mind it's a '47 B I plan to use for mowing, and don't care about "expo" quality. I've sanded the crud, loose paint and rust off of it, and have a 5hp single stage compressor. Got an old spray gun kicking around. Questions:
What to wipe it down with.
Would a HVLP turbine sprayer to minimize overspray be better than my old gun?
What brand HVLP set-up will work that's not too expensive?
Will JD "classic" green thinned to instructions be adaquate for a half-way decent job?
Thanks.

Here's another example of inexpensive paint, cheap equipment.. outside painting on a mild windless day, after weeks of sanding and prep..

I've painted quite a fee tractors with a cheapy 9.99 chinese gun, and 2hp/4 gallon pancake compressor, and an el-cheapo regulator / air filter.. gun, filter/reg and pump cost only about 120$ all together..

I really must say.. surface prep is one of the biggest determining factor of quality of a paint job.. makes more difference than the paint itself... next biggest influence is environment.. that is .. humidity, temperature, rain/wind.. etc.

In other words.. prep is 60%.. environment is 30% and materials are 5% and equipment is 5%..

For a wash before painting, i use mineral spirits, using one wet rag or paper towel to apply it, then another to wipe it off! There is a product used by auto body shops called Pre-Kleano, but it does the same thing, but is costlier! Your old regular spray gun should suffice. No need to go buy expensive equipment. I have painted many cars, base-coat/ clear-coat, with those cheap, flea market, $35-45 spray guns, for many years, and they turned out great! Remember: "It ain't the gun, it's the person using it!"
