Hello there, I was just wondering what kind of sand paper would be the best to start sanding down an old super m that I got. I know using sand paper is a slow way, but I"ve got plenty of time and I just want to get started. Thanks...

Josh

Sandpaper won't work very well on cast, because you can't get it into the low places -- best to use a cup brush on an angle grinder, and various other brushes on a drill or a needle scaler on the hard to get to places. You need to remove all the old paint and rust. You may want to combine this with chemical stripper or oven cleaner. You can use 80 grit or finer on the sheet metal. If you are going to use epoxy primer, don't go finer than 180-220 grit, as the epoxy may not adhere to the metal as well. I usually do the final sanding with 150-180 grit to get a somewhat smoother surface, but 80 grit scratches can be covered with a surfacer/primer surfacer over the epoxy. Deeper scratches or rust pits will require body filler. Sand the surfacer between coats with 400.
