I am getting ready to paint a Case DC. What is a good quality flambeau red paint to use? This will be a show tractor. Also, I have heard of people using a brush to paint the cast parts. Any opinions on this?

Whatever you do.. use a hardner in your paint. Also.. try mineral spirits for thinner if you brush.. and naptha for spray.

I also heard that 'brush the cast' idea a while back when i did my JD-b.. I REGRET doing it that way... took 3x the time of spraying it, and the finish did not come out as good as 3 other tractors that I have simply sprayed the cast while i sprayed the tin.

Some folks brush.. then spray over top to 'hide the lines'.. I find that is a whole lotta work.. better to just hit it with 2 coats, if you have that much free time. IMHO..

Also.. as an aside.. you get alot LESS dirty by spraying.... brushing is an up close and personal method... Out of ever gallon of MS I would buy.. 3/4 of it would go to cleaning me up.. and only 1/4 to thinning paint...

A super high gloss, never gonna see the fields, use Spies Hecker base clear and use the 8070 clear, the trade off is durability, while Spies is super durable it is still automotive not heavy duty truck or industrial grade paint, the other option could be DuPont Imron 5000, very duarable and very glossy but it the gloss level is just shy of Spies and is alittle harder to use, but will stand up bettr to tools hitting it and such

Frank How available is Imron5000? When I was working on persian orange colors for my Allis G, my jobber said he couldn't do it in Imron but could order it in Imron5000. Is this normal or just the way my jobber wanted to do it.

Hi Jason, the jobbers have to make the investment in the paint lines, some only will have automotive lines others will have all the lines we put out, your jobber may have not had the proper ingredients to make 5000 but they are allowed to purchase it and he was willing to if you wanted that quality
