I keep reading that its not a good idea to sandblast complete tractors or patially asembled componenets. My question is will it blow out the gaskets or does the sand get in some where else.

I tried to sandblast a PTO assembly and thought I had it pretty well sealed up before I started. But, I had to completely disassemble it, clean all the parts and replace the bearing. Everything I should have done from the beginning.

Your right I dont want to totally disasemble. But say I want to sandblast a component such as a governor housing or front steering pedastel, etc. if I seal whats obviously open that should work right or am I wrong. I also dont believe it would blow out the gaskets as long as the spray isnt concentrated on them. Just want some opinions rather not do each individual piece. Thanks

In my opinion you shouldn't sandblast anything that has parts inside. I.E. the governor housing likely has a rod or tube that has a seal to prevent leakage. I can't say what you can or cannot do on your particular tractor. All I can say is what I won't do, and that is blast pieces with internal parts.

You are implying that you don't wish to disassemble -- so I would not try it. As to gaskets, you are going to cram sand in any space that it can get into. Blow them out? I doubt it, but you are going to get sand where you don't want it.
