Will be starting a 42 JD-H as soon as the current project is finished in a month or so. The fenders on this H ae not rusted or bent up but are wavey. Is this a normal condition or should they be smooth. If not normal what is the solution. I do alright on small sheet metal dents and cracaks but am no bodyman when I hit a problem. Thanks for any advise.

You might ask about the way the fenders are supposed to look on the JD board. Most tractor manufacturers did not attempt to cover defects caused by rivets, etc. Thus it could have been caused by the way the fenders were manufactured. I have noticed oil pans, etc that had a nonuniform surface due to the way they were made. If the fenders have been repainted and you have not removed the old paint, a non-uniform surface can be caused by improper sanding of the surfacer used under the topcoat.
