I'm entering my 1st pull in 1 week. I have never seen a 2-cylinder diesel pull. How do you get off the clutch? Let out on clutch then throttle up? I'm afraid if the weight hit's too soon I won't be able to build any rpms. But I don't want to overwork the clutch either with it throttled up too high to start. Is it going to be like pulling a disk?

I pulled mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago. In 8000 and 9000 class I took off a t idle and then put the RPMs to it. I had no problem at all with power. When I got to the end of the track I backed it back to idle and it still spun the tires. I was on a very hard power robbing track also. There was another R in my class that did power out and he took 3rd. The engine is not yet broke in on mine. Add all the weight to the rims if you can. I had to stack suit case weights in the floor in front of the battery box to make the 9000 The front never came up. My hook point was 20 inches high and 20 inches back. I don't have a PTO or power trol. Just a flatback cover. Have fun and let us know how it does. CASEPOWER

What gear should I pull with? Most people last year seemed to run 1st gear, but I didn't see anything bigger than a few 70's go down the track. Mine is all stock, straight from the field, not restored, but good shape.

I've never pulled an R, but I have seen several pull, and you should be able to start the sled at an idle or a little above. You will be travelling slow enough that you will have plenty of time and torque to get to full speed before the weight "hits". There's no sense winding it clear up and slipping the clutch to start the sled if you can just idle it and snap it right in. If you end up with the front end off the ground and power out, pull the clutch out and use your brakes to ease the tractor back down rather than just letting it slam down. It's the little things like that that show the difference between really good pullers and the average guys.
