You will have to check the rules.. some clubs don't allow tractors built after 1953 or 1957.. why.. I don't know.. I guess they are keeping out the 60 series farmall??? In TX we pull a up to 1960.. (all 2 cylinders, and 60 series farmall's.) there are 730 wide fronts and standards pulling here..

I pull a 730 with 18.4 30 tires full of fluid wide front and a 3 point. I pull in 10000lbs and do very well.

I BEG TO DIFFER THAT EVERYONE IN MICHIGAN THAT PULLS HAVE THERE OWN LITTLE CLICKS! YOU MUST BE GOING TO THE WRONG PULLS! I PULL A JD G AND A (AND DO QUITE WELL ALSO)IN THE CENTRAL MICHIGAN AREA FROM HAWKINS OVER TO WEST BRANCH AND PLACES IN BETWEEN' AND EXCEPT FOR THE CONSTANT COMPLAINERS AT EVERY PULL WE DON'T USUALLY HAVE MANY PROBLEMS, AND THE RULES ARE FOLLOWED LIKE THEY ARE PRINTED. THERE ARE EVERY KIND OF 2 CYLINDER JD THAT YOU CAN PULL WEIGHT WISE FOR THE CLASS. ONE THING I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT ANY PULL, IF YOU START WINNING THEN EVERYONE GOES OVER YOUR TRACTOR WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB. A WORD OF ADVISE PULL AT THE FAIRS, THATS WHERE THE PRIZE MONEY IS AND USUALLY NOT WHERE THE CLUB PULLS ARE.

You might try thr monthly pull in Leslie, Michigan. They have a few 730's pulling in the heavier classic classes. They do a respectable job. The ones pulling are gas tractors. Leslie is no cut tires, top bar or otherwise. I can get you more information if you need it.

There is also EMTPA in the thumb area and many small pulls around that are worthwhile. Armada fair runs a 9000 farm class. Fowlerville Fair runs 7500, 8500 and 10,000 pound farm classes. there are others as well.

Anyone new anywhere gets a good looking over. People are naturally curious and some times suspicous. Make sure that you get a copy of the rules and read them. Talk to the pulling committee/chair/track officials if you have any questions at all. Make sure your tractor meets the rules before you make the trip.

Take care,
A.P.

Most of the 730's pull pretty good for what they are.. Not many strokers in the 730's down here.. (I know of only a few strokers, compared to the rest.) The diesel's pull good with some good fuel work, and head work. Most of the Gasser and LP's are running on high compression with some head work. All are running 18.4x38's. I like the lines and the comfort of the 30's. and the power of the 730's and 830's... but they are starting to get pricey... JDGnut
