The M and I were at Sigourney last weekend for the 5500 Nat. Classic. As I walked around, I began to realize that I might be out of my league, but I'd already put up the $25!!! for the hook.
Now, I've got a question. Why didn't all you "heavy hitters" humiliate me?
I mean I was out there with a stock M Farmall, 264 cu. in., working live hyd., field tires, and 180# light. Plus my wheelie bars where dragging at the end. I pulled 171.4'. That old boy with his 1018 cu. in. W-9 pulled 172+ on his first hook.
So, speak up. What have you guys got to say for yourselves?
Now, I'll admit I didn't show up to win anything. I knew that at the get go. I was there to see what she had after all my tinkering this winter. And I think I pulled a personal best. But some of you guys might not think I can tell you anything. But listen to this, Pick a clean path. Half you guys were shot down by someone else's holes.

So does a blind Cockshutt!!

Glad to hear you could hang with the big boys. We had a W-9 a while back. Without fluid the ol' girl weighed 8100 big ones (without fluid). I bet the torches and grinders were nevous that day to get a W-9 that light.

That W9 only has 800 cubic inches, that sticker is a joke. I don't think he should be in that class anyways but oh well. I am glad your M got so close to him. I didn't have my tractor there but I watched it.

I think that 9 is bigger than 800, it sure runs better than mine, and it is close to 800

I think he's talking about Murphy. I was surprised to see he could make 5500#. Looks like he has been at the buffet bar "a little too much" this winter! Your stock M did well then! I wanted to see how some of the so called tuff H's ran that were there!!

Congrats on the pull. I didn't get over there who won and what was he on? Are you talking about Murphy's W-9 ?

I was there, and Murphy won the 5500 on his W9. I don't know how many cubes he really has, but anyone who can idle down the track in 4th, and then have enough left to bring it up at the end and still never get into it has got a motor. He also did a good job of driving to play the speed limit the way he did. Some of the others played it a little too hard, and got speeding tickets.

I didn't stay for the open classes after 3500, since I had a 9 hour ride home. I did see Begemans Case in a trailer, and would have liked to see the 2 of them pull against each other. There was also a 88 Ollie that unloaded for 3500 open, then went back on the trailer. Don't know the story, but would hope it wasn't because they spent all that money to pull against much smaller tractors.

Thanks for the info. Murphys W-9 is really strong,I think the 1018ci sticker is a dig to everybodies favorite engine builder who has a 1017ci L Case. The 88 is probably the same one I saw in fruitland pull in 3500 class. I was told it's got a new Duke motor in it.

The 88 said Extreme on it, had 2 huge chrome pipes up through the hood. I'd think he outta go pick on tractors a little bigger than 3500 lbs though.

Not that I disagree with you, but how is pulling an 88 in the 3500 open any worse than pulling a W9 in a 5500 3.5 mile an hour class, and putting it in a big hole and idling it down.

Amen to that caseman. A buddy and I took his 65hp UB up there a few years ago and we were the only one to make the pulloff that was in low gear.

To me pulling a tractor that is clearly built for open classes pulling in mph classes just isn't right. I love seeing the low or second gear tractors making it to the pull off.

I have a ultra low budget extremely low horse MM U, but I love to play in the speed limit classes against the big guys. Considering the money invested, I'll try to be the blind hog finding the acorn every time.

I don't pull for money, so I don't invest much. Don't see the need to spend lotsa $$$$, when the ol MM can compete. Guaranteed, I get more feet down the track for dollar invested than anyone out there. 3 or 4 years ago, I pulled the Mo in 6500 at Sigourney with a set of 13.6x38's, and was only one or two places out of the money. Beat a lot of tractors that were bigger, and drivers that were smarter. Funny thing is, that wasn't the first, or the last time. You can even ask a few 4020 pilots, besides some of those antique pullers. Lots of people look at Mo and laugh before the hook. Then some of them curse at it after the hook. Hopefully, it ain't me!

I pull strictly for fun. I'm competetive, but on a real small budget scale. And unless I win the lottery that I don't play, it's gonna stay that way.

Wow I am impressed. You guys have made a stunning discovery. Could it be possible that the speed limit is in place to keep tractors that pull in low and second gear competitive?

Yeah the speed limit is supposed to keep it competitive, but putting a tractor in 4th and running 3.5 mph, is still a lot different than a tractor in 1st, don't you think.
